Election Information

General municipal elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of even-numbered years.(WMC §2.04.10)

The City Council is made up of a Mayor and four Council Members, for a total of five members.  These positions are elected by Westminster Voters at large, and elections are held every two years.  The offices of Mayor and City Council are non-partisan.

The Mayor serves a term of two years, while Council Members each serve a four-year term.  At the next City election, to be held on November 2, 2010, the voters will elect  two Council Members and the Mayor.

To be eligible to be elected to the office of Mayor or Council Member, a candidate must be a qualified voter and resident of the City at the time nomination papers are issued. (EC §201)

City Clerk notifications related to the 2010 General Municipal Election including the Election Handbook will be available throughout the Election cycle.  Nomination papers must be returned no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010.  Specific questions regarding this process may be addressed to the City Clerk at (714) 548-3237.

Candidates interested in starting a campaign committee are required to submit forms that can be obtained from the City Clerk’s Office, 8200 Westminster Blvd, or may be downloaded through the Secretary of the State or the FPPC websites.

October 18, 2010 is the last day to register to vote for the November, 2, 2010 election you may access the form and find additional information on the Orange County Registrar of Voters website.
