Officer of the Year

2014: Officer Paul Walker
Officer Paul Walker has worked at Westminster PD for ten years and has provided such a positive impact both with his co-workers and within the community. Officer Walker has been described by his peers as a "solid all-around officer who works hard, has a great attitude and sense of humor, a hard working Explorer Advisor and volunteers in many areas of the department." Officer Walker is the Lead Explorer Advisor and has been mentoring the youth in the program for years, propelling many of them to careers in law enforcement. He is a Field Training Officer, on the Trauma Support Team, and a director on the WPOA board. Officer Walker is often volunteering his own time with the explorers, Special Olympics events and other WPD functions.

2012: Officer Michael Harvey
Mike Harvey came to the Westminster Police Department in 2011 after several years with the Costa Mesa Police Department. He is currently assigned to West Command Patrol Operations and is working weekend nightshift.  Mike is a highly productive and effective patrol officer.  In 2012, he authored 195 reports, made 419 traffic stops, and arrested 116 suspects.  He was selected to the West County SWAT Team and is currently assigned to the containment element. Mike has assisted with several successful Problem Oriented Policing projects and is well liked by those who work with him. To further demonstrate his dedication to making the city of Westminster a better place, Mike has quietly assisted at the Westminster Boys and Girls Club for the past several months.  All around, Mike had an excellent year as a patrol officer for our department. _____________________________________________________________________________________________
Officer of the Year
This honor and accompanying plaque are awarded to an officer assigned to operations who, for the calendar year, has consistently exemplified the mission, vision, and values of the Westminster Police Department during the entire calendar year. Areas of emphasis that will be considered in the selection process for these awards include:

  • Level of productivity in the specific assignment of the officer/employee
  • Participation in community based projects (POPs, Special Events, etc)
  • Participation in committees, work groups, and projects
  • Level of teamwork demonstrated with other employees
  • Excellence demonstrated during specific project(s) and/or investigations
  • Participation in other projects or events that tend to promote the Westminster Police Department in a positive manner
  • Respected by their peers and other department employees
