-------------------------------------------- *Police Chief Ron Coopman began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer for the City of Reno, Nevada and was hired by the Westminster Police Department in September 1985. His experience includes assignments in Patrol, Detectives, Narcotics, the Regional Narcotics Suppression Task Force (RNSP) and Metro. He was appointed to Captain in April 2004 and promoted to Chief of Police on March 12, 2011.
Chief Coopman graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute (SLI) in 2000 and is a recent graduate from the California P.O.S.T. Command College. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration from the University of La Verne, as well as a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the California State University Long Beach, where he has taught undergraduate courses as an Associate Professor in the Professional Studies Department. Chief Coopman is also a committee member of the Orange County Behavioral Health Services Joint Task Force as well as Vice Chair of the Orange County Regional Computer Forensics Lab Local Executive Board.
