On November 4, 2008, the voters of Westminster elected Tyler Diep to his first 4-year term on the City Council. As a taxpayer advocate, Tyler is committed to job creation and supporting small businesses by keeping taxes low. In 2010, he was unanimously selected by his colleagues to serve as Mayor Pro Tem.
Councilman Diep previously served as Vice Chairman of the Westminster Traffic Commission and was an Advisory Commissioner in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
He has a rare distinction of also serving as Director of the Midway City Sanitary District. This local government agency provides solid waste collection and sanitary sewage services to the residents of both Westminster and the unincorporated Midway City area.
In addition, Councilman Diep represents the City of Westminster on the Orange County Fire Authority.
Prior to his service in public office, Tyler worked as a legislative representative for the California State Legislature.
Professionally, Tyler serves as Senior Advisor to the State Board of Equalization, an agency that is charged with collecting sales tax. In this position, he is responsible for minority business outreach and public affairs.
Councilman Diep and his family resettled in Southern California from Vietnam in 1991. Determined to be a responsible citizen in his new adopted country, Tyler joined the Boy Scouts of America and immersed himself in many community service activities.
Heavily involved in student governance during his college years, Tyler was selected by his peers as President Pro Tem of the student body council, which oversees an annual budget of nearly $20 million.
He currently holds a Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from California State University, San Diego.
