Westminster Evacuation Orders Lifted

Residents and businesses are allowed to return home to northern Westminster.

WESTMINSTER, Calif. – Mandatory evacuations in portions of the City of Westminster have been lifted by the Orange County Fire Authority. At this time, residents and businesses are allowed to re-enter the evacuated areas in Westminster and roads have been reopened. 

Westminster residents and businesses were displaced beginning late Friday morning due to an ongoing hazardous materials incident occurring in the City of Garden Grove. As announced in its 6 p.m. press conference tonight, the Orange County Fire Authority has determined it is safe for residents and businesses to return to the evacuated areas in Westminster. 

The City of Westminster and Westminster Police Department continue to assist residents within the impacted area and to coordinate closely with partner agencies. The federal government approved an emergency declaration earlier today to provide additional resources; at this time, those resources are pending and unknown to the City.

The Westminster Senior Center at 8200 Westminster Blvd. will remain open until midnight tonight to assist with the transition as residents return to homes. For assistance, including in Vietnamese and Spanish, call (714) 895-2878. WAGS, at 6621 Westminster Blvd., will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. today and will reopen at 8 a.m. tomorrow for residents to collect their pets as they return home. 

Street sweeping and residential trash collection will resume with delays expected. Parking citations are not currently being issued by parking control for passenger vehicles and recreational vehicles within the evacuation area.

Bolsa Chica Park and restrooms at 13660 University Street, Goldenwest Park at 13200 Siskiyou Street, and Frank G. Fry Park at 7481 21st Street are now open.

Sequoia and Fryberger Elementary schools will reopen for regular in-person instruction. To contact the Westminster School District, call (714) 894-7311. For information on the Garden Grove Unified School District, call (714) 663-6000.

The Orange County Fire Authority’s report this morning shared positive news that temperatures have dropped in the affected tanks in the City of Garden Grove and an explosion is no longer the main threat. The tank contains a flammable, highly volatile plastic epoxy called methyl methacrylate, which is a skin and respiratory irritant. At this time, no dangerous materials have leaked and no residents have been exposed to the material.

Call 911 only for a life-threatening emergency. For questions regarding the incident including questions about public health or the status of the tanks, a public information hotline is available 24 hours a day at (714) 628-7085. 

Those who need assistance can call the Westminster Police Department’s non-emergency line at (714) 548-3212. For information about residential trash pick-up, contact the Midway City Sanitary District at (714) 893-3553. Staff will be available to assist with Vietnamese or Spanish translation between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at (714) 895-2878. WESTMINSTER, Calif. – Lệnh sơ tán bắt buộc tại một số khu vực thuộc Thành Phố Westminster đã được Sở Cứu Hỏa Quận Cam dỡ bỏ. Vào thời điểm hiện tại, cư dân và các cơ sở kinh doanh đã được phép quay trở lại những khu vực từng phải sơ tán tại Westminster, và các tuyến đường cũng đã được mở lại.

Cư dân và các cơ sở kinh doanh tại Westminster đã phải di dời kể từ cuối buổi sáng thứ Sáu, do một sự cố liên quan đến việc rò rỉ vật liệu độc hại diễn ra tại Thành Phố Garden Grove. Như đã thông báo trong cuộc họp báo lúc 6 giờ tối nay, Sở Cứu Hỏa Quận Cam đã xác định rằng việc cư dân và các cơ sở kinh doanh quay trở lại những khu vực từng phải sơ tán tại Westminster là hoàn toàn an toàn.

Se Levantan las Ordenes de Evacuación en Westminster

Los residentes y las empresas tienen permitido regresar a sus hogares en el norte de Westminster. 

WESTMINSTER, Calif. – La Autoridad de Bomberos del Condado de Orange (OCFA) ha levantado las evacuaciones obligatorias en las zonas de la ciudad de Westminster. En este momento, se permite a los residentes y a los negocios regresar a las áreas evacuadas en Westminster, y se han reabierto las carreteras.

Los residentes y comercios de Westminster fueron desalojados a partir del final de la mañana del viernes debido a un incidente en curso con materiales peligrosos que ocurrió en la ciudad de Garden Grove. Tal como se anunció en su conferencia de prensa de las 6:00 p.m. de esta noche, la Autoridad de Bomberos del Condado de Orange ha determinado que es seguro para los residentes y comercios regresar a las zonas evacuadas en Westminster.

La Ciudad de Westminster y el Departamento de Policía de Westminster continúan brindando asistencia a los residentes del área afectada y coordinando estrechamente con las agencias colaboradoras. El informe de esta mañana de la Autoridad de Bomberos del Condado de Orange ha comunicado noticias positivas: las temperaturas han descendido en los tanques afectados en la ciudad de Garden Grove y una explosión ya no constituye la principal amenaza.
