The City of Westminster has released its June Emergency Preparedness Bulletin, providing residents and businesses with important information on local disaster recovery, extreme heat preparedness, and water safety.

In response to the chemical incident in Garden Grove, the U.S. Small Business Administration has opened a Business Recovery Center at 12966 Euclid Street, Suite 130, Garden Grove, to assist small businesses impacted by the evacuation. Eligible businesses may qualify for Economic Injury Disaster Loans of up to $2 million. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and walk-ins are welcome. The deadline to submit economic injury applications is March 11, 2027. For more information, call (800) 659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

June is also Summer Ready Month. Residents are encouraged to learn the signs of heat-related illness, use air conditioning or visit public cooling locations such as libraries and shopping malls during extreme heat, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. Those with disabilities, older adults, and individuals with medical conditions are urged to plan ahead, stay hydrated, and work with their support networks during heat events.

With summer comes increased time around water. The bulletin reminds residents that children can drown in as little as 2 inches of water and should never be left unattended near pools or other bodies of water. Residents are encouraged to install pool barriers, learn CPR, swim with a buddy, and follow all posted warnings at beaches and lakes.
