The City of Westminster has released its August Emergency Preparedness Bulletin, providing residents with important information on back-to-school emergency preparedness, extreme heat safety, and upcoming community events.

With the new school year approaching, Westminster Emergency Management encourages families to create or review their family emergency plan, designate local and out-of-town contacts, establish evacuation routes, and build an emergency kit stocked with water, nonperishable food, first aid supplies, and any medications or items specific to their household's needs. Families are also encouraged to connect with their child's school to understand emergency communication procedures and ensure the school has up-to-date contact information. With temperatures running high, residents are reminded to drink water throughout the day, seek air conditioning at locations such as local libraries and shopping malls, and watch for signs of heat exhaustion including heavy sweating, dizziness, and headaches.

The City is also in the process of updating its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and will be seeking community input. Residents with questions may contact Emergency Manager Anna Burton at aburton@westminster-ca.gov.

National Night Out is Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Westminster Civic Center Sunken Gardens. The annual event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
