How can you tell if a firework is illegal?

A firework is considered illegal if it can leave the ground or explode. Illegal fireworks include those described as cherry bombs, bottle rockets, mortars, aerial shells, M-80s, and firecrackers. Illegal fireworks can also be identified by the lack of a seal of approval from the California State Fire Marshal.

There is a $1000 fine for an illegal fireworks citation.
