Leyna Nguyen

Leyna Nguyen

Many in our community know her as a familiar and trusted face on television. Leyna Nguyen is a five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and former CBS News anchor. Beyond television, her reach continues worldwide—helping many learn English online. Today, Leyna brings that same gift for clarity and connection to a new mission as a financial literacy advocate and CEO of VanMay Financial (vận may tài chính) —empowering Vietnamese families to make informed financial decisions and build lasting security.

 

Cao Minh Hưng-Founder of VAFC-CLBTNS

 

Dr. Cao Minh Hung

Dr. Cao Minh Hung is a dentist currently practicing in Costa Mesa, California. He is married to Ngoc Bich and has two children.  In addition, he is a musician, writer, poet, and a martial arts master of the Vovinam style. He is known overseas for his musical compositions in various genres, as well as for his articles published in numerous magazines and for hosting several talk shows on television.

        He studied Biology at UCLA in 1992 and graduated from dental school at Loma Linda University in California in 1996. He co-founded the Vietnamese Artists Friendship Club(aka, Cau Lac Bo Tinh Nghe Si) in 2010 with the great musician Anh Bang. He established the Youth Talent Development Program in 2016, a free program to guide young people in learning the Vietnamese language and culture through music.

        He has contributed articles to numerous newspapers and magazines such as Viet Bao, Nguoi Viet, The World of Women Magazine, Viet Tide, Dong Tam Anthology, Binh Duong Magazine, etc. He is the editor-in-chief of the Overseas Literature and Arts Anthology of the VAFC. He has published the music album "Lighting Up Vietnam" and the book "My Life and Short Stories". He received the "Writing About America" Honorary Award from Viet Bao in 2008 and the "Outstanding Author - Writing About America" Award from Viet Bao in 2010.

        Dr. Cao Minh Hung is the host and producer of TV programs such as the "Vietnamese Artists Friendship Club Talk Show" on IBC-TV, the "Young Talents" show on VNA-TV, the "Artists with The Music" program, and the "Seeds of Vietnam" program with a weekly educational quiz segment broadcast on Little Saigon TV, etc. He is also well-known for his musical compositions in various genres, including love songs, patriotic songs, historical epics, children's songs, and more.

        For his positive contributions to the cultural and social fields within the community, he was awarded a "Congressional Record" honor by the U.S. Congress in March 2022, presented by U.S. Representative Alan Lowenthal, as 
        well as a "Community Leadership Award" presented by California State Senator Tom Umberg in May 2022.

        In 2025, he was also honored by Representative Tri Ta at the California State Assembly and was also proudly inducted into the Santa Ana College Alumni Hall of Fame for his contributions to the community in the cultural and social spheres.

 

Nam Loc

 Nam Loc Nguyen

Nam Loc Nguyen fled Saigon on April 27, 1975, eventually resettling in Los Angeles. As a song writer and musician, his music has reflected the refugee experience, including movement from North to South Vietnam, the difficult conditions that civilians experienced during the war, and the subsequent flight of Vietnamese from their homeland. His music is well known among Vietnamese communities worldwide, including the song “Farewell, Saigon,” which is an anthem to those who were forced to flee and is still widely popular today. When Mr. Nguyen resettled in Los Angeles, December 1975, he began working for Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Los Angeles (CCLA). During his time with CCLA, as Director of Immigration & Refugee Department, and a Full Board of Immigration Appeals Accredited Representative, he was heavily involved with resettling hundreds of thousands of refugees from Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Central America, and the Middle East. Mr. Nguyen also oversaw the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC) office in Los Angeles and has served as a member of the Naturalization Advisory Committee for USCIS Los Angeles district office for many years. Mr. Nguyen has had a very successful career in music and public speaking and as a TV and radio personality for national and worldwide Vietnamese audiences. The movie “Green Dragon” (2001) is loosely based on his life. In 2022, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services / Department of Homeland Security appointed Mr. Nguyen as US Citizenship Ambassador.

He is married and is the father of two daughters who are graduates from Brown and Yale universities.
