The City of Westminster invites residents, students, and local businesses to help shape how we celebrate our 70th Anniversary! We're holding a community logo contest to find original designs that will represent Westminster throughout our milestone anniversary year in 2027. Winning logos will appear on promotional materials, publications, digital communications, and special events citywide.

Contest Categories

The contest has two separate categories:

General Category

Open to Westminster residents ages 13 and older, students ages 13 and older, and Westminster businesses with a valid City business license. Business entries must be submitted by an individual representative on the business's behalf. The winning design will serve as the City's official 70th Anniversary logo.

K–12 Category

Open to students of all ages who are currently enrolled in grades K–12 at any school serving Westminster and who are current residents of Westminster. The winning design will be used on youth-focused anniversary programming and materials. K–12 students may enter the same design in both the General and K–12 categories; however, a design may win only one category.

Prizes

• General Category Winner: $500 in gift cards to local Westminster businesses
• K–12 Category Winner: Commemorative merchandise featuring the winning design

Both winners will be recognized at a City Council meeting and featured on the City's website, social media, and marketing materials.

Contest Timeline

Eligibility

The contest is open to:

• Westminster residents ages 13 and older
• Students enrolled at any school located in Westminster (K–12 students of all ages may enter the K–12 category)
• Westminster businesses with a valid City business license — entries must be submitted by an individual representative (ages 13 and older) on the business's behalf

Applicants must fall into at least one of the above categories. Elected and appointed City officials, City employees, and their immediate family members are not eligible. Limit one (1) entry per participant per category.

Submission Requirements

• Logo must be an original design created specifically for the City's 70th Anniversary
• Design should reflect Westminster's identity, history, culture, and community spirit
• Must include or clearly reference “City of Westminster” and “70th Anniversary,” “70 Years,” or “1957–2027”
• Design must be scalable and adaptable for various uses, including print and digital applications
• Color designs are encouraged; the logo must also be clearly reproducible in black and white
• Include a brief written description (2–5 sentences) explaining the design concept
• All submitted designs must be the original work of the entrant — no third-party artwork, clipart, or copyrighted material

Digital Submissions

Complete the online form and upload your artwork.

Accepted file formats: EPS, Adobe Illustrator, PDF, PNG, or JPG (high resolution required).

Note: A free Google account is required to submit via the online form. If you don't have or prefer not to create a Google account, please use the PDF application and submit your application and artwork by mail or in person.

All completed applications and artwork must be received by September 23, 2026. Mailed artwork must be postmarked by September 18, 2026.

Hand-Drawn Submissions

Hand-drawn submissions are welcome. Artwork must be on white paper and may be submitted in one of three ways:

• Scanned or photographed at high resolution and uploaded via the online form
• Dropped off in person at Community Services and Recreation
• Mailed to Community Services and Recreation

Community Services and Recreation is open Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hand-drawn submissions selected as finalists will be digitized into vector format by the City in collaboration with the artist. Physical submissions will not be returned unless requested.

Prefer to skip the paper form? You may also complete the online application form and mail or deliver your artwork separately. Please write your full name and email address on the back of your artwork so we can match it to your application. You will receive an email confirmation once your physical submission has been received.

Judging Criteria

• Creativity and originality
• Representation of Westminster's character, history, and community values
• Visual appeal
• Versatility and usability across print and digital formats
• Technical quality

Judging Process

All submissions will first undergo a staff review to ensure eligibility and compliance with submission requirements. Qualifying submissions will then be presented to the public for community voting, available both in person and online. Following public voting, submissions will be reviewed by the Cultural Arts Commission. Final selection will be made by the City Council.

One (1) winner will be selected in each category — General and K–12. The City reserves the right to make minor modifications to the winning designs for branding, production, digital applications, or reproduction purposes while preserving the overall artistic concept.

Rights

Winning logos become the property of the City of Westminster. By submitting an entry, participants grant the City permission to use, reproduce, modify, publish, and distribute the submitted design for official City purposes without additional compensation beyond the awarded prize. Non-winning entries remain the property of the entrant.
